EUROSTAR TO SPONSOR LONDON 2012

12/05/10

The London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) today announces that Eurostar has become a tier 3 sponsor of London 2012, the 30th domestic sponsor.

Eurostar has become Official International Rail Services Provider and will be providing London 2012 with arrival and departure services at St Pancras International for those competing and working at the Games who are travelling to London on its trains.  It will also provide international rail services for London 2012’s operational requirements.  Outside of its sponsorship with LOCOG, Eurostar will naturally be carrying many spectators from main land Europe to and from the Games in 2012 itself.

Eurostar has also acquired rights in France and Belgium and become a partner of the French and Belgian National Olympic Committees. As part of these deals, the French and Belgian Olympic teams will travel to and from the Games using Eurostar services.

As part of its sponsorship of the London 2012 Games, Eurostar will be conducting a number of activities across the UK, France and Belgium to promote London 2012 as a truly sustainable Games.

The first main Eurostar activation is the Tri-City-Athlon planned for 14 September 2010 which takes places across the three capital cities that Eurostar serves.  Over one day participants will do a swim in Paris, a cycle in Brussels and a run in London.

LOCOG Chair Sebastian Coe commented: “We are thrilled that Eurostar has come onboard as a London 2012 partner. They are an iconic brand with a strong emphasis on quality and I know they will ensure that everyone coming to London 2012 by rail, either as a competitor or spectator, has the best travel experience possible from the moment they start their journey.”

Nicolas Petrovic, Chief Executive of Eurostar, said: "We are proud to be partners with London 2012 and believe we will play a critical role in bringing people from all over Europe.  As the high speed rail link between the UK and the continent we will be bringing over a million people to and from the UK during the Games and will help make London 2012 the most sustainable Games possible.”

"The Tri-City-Athlon which will take place in Paris, Brussels and London will be a record-breaking way of demonstrating the proximity of the continental capitals we serve and reinforcing the closeness of the UK to Europe. It will be a great challenge for the participants and will be a key milestone in the run-up to 2012.”

EUROSTAR TRAVEL UPDATE – MONDAY 22 FEBRUARY (13:30 GMT)

22/02/10

Due to operational issues in the Ashford area last night,  Eurostar services have been subject to delays this morning.  Services are now running with minimal delays and therefore travellers booked this afternoon should check in as normal.

Following the incident on the Belgium railway last week, a limited direct service between London and Brussels resumed today.  The new route is on suburban commuter lines and access is severely restricted, therefore Eurostar is only able to operate three return trains rather than the usual nine services in each direction. These services will be reinforced by the frequent shuttle coach service between Lille and Brussels which has been operating successfully since the accident.

Travellers for Lille or Brussels are advised to check-in as normal and they will be accommodated on to most appropriate service.  Full information is available here.

Travellers who do not wish to travel to Brussels this week will be able to exchange their tickets for travel at a later date or obtain a refund.

Due to the on-going incident investigation, we do not expect full service to resume between London and Brussels before Tuesday 2 March.   We do however anticipate an increased number of services from Friday 26 February.  We will be in touch on Wednesday with an update.

EUROSTAR SERVICES SUSPENDED BETWEEN UK AND BRUSSELS

15/02/10 @ 11.30

Eurostar has suspended all services between the UK and Brussels Midi station in Belgium today, Monday 15 February, because of a serious accident involving two domestic commuter trains.

The accident is between where the domestic commuter lines and high-speed lines meet at Halle just out side Brussels. This means that Eurostar services and other rail services including Thalys are unable to operate until further notice.

Eurostar is operating a reduced timetable between its UK stations and Lille, however travellers are advised there may be delays to their service. Services between London and Paris / Disneyland Resort Paris are operating normally.

Because of the seriousness of the accident and the expected impact on both domestic and international rail services, travellers between the UK and Brussels are strongly advised to postpone or cancel their journeys. Eurostar passengers can exchange or refund their tickets.

A further up-date regarding tomorrow’s services will be issued later today.

Please contact eurostar4agents at eurostar4agents@eurostar.co.uk or on
08448 224 334 with any queries.
