Seats

If seats are not requested, they are allocated automatically once a booking has been ended. Only confirm a booking to a client when a coach and seat number is shown as KK in the SSR.

Coach and Seat Availability Display entries

Display which coaches are available to book for class of service (J in this case) required for sector 2

SMC2/J

Check that the coach is valid for the on-board class of travel displayed on the screen:
A is Business Premier, H is Standard Premier and B is Standard class.

(It is very important that the availability display is checked, as coach 7 to 12 are yield managed, so while on one train coach 7 maybe Business Premier, on another it could be Standard Premier. If you select a seat in a Standard Premier coach when booking Business Premier your sectors will UC)

Seat Changes

Full command formats must be used. To change a seat that is already allocated, cancel the seating SSR element number (XE3 to cancel ssr on line 3), request new seats using the command formats, Receive and End and Retrieve. Ignore and Retrieve to refresh booking and check SSR to verify seat and coach number.

Interactive seat map

This user friendly point and click function displays coaches according to on board class of travel and booking class, and enables you to choose specific seats for more than one person. To activate, ensure that the rail map button is enabled from the customization dialog box, or contact your Amadeus account manager for more details.

Overbooking

when overbooked seats are assigned to your booking, you will receive an SSR message warning you of this.

As well as only a coach number being displayed e.g C007S000 you will also receive the following SSR message

At this stage this is a confirmed booking with a tip up seat in a designated coach. Please offer travellers alternative services, or if continuing with the 'overbooking' process, advise them of the following:

  • To collect tickets from the E ticket machines or Eurostar ticket office if they haven't printed them at home and then proceed to the manual check-in desk, where they may be offered a confirmed seat due to 'no shows'.
  • If there are no seats available, they need to board the train at the coach indicated on their ticket and use a tip-up seat. A meal is not guaranteed in Business Premier or Standard Premier.

Things to remember

For seat changes made by E4A before you have issued the ticket

Client can collect ticket as normal from the e-ticketing machine - the new seat number will appear on the printed ticket but will not reflect in the GDS booking.

Seat changes made by E4A after e-ticket issue

Client should collect their ticket from the e-ticketing machine and then proceed to manual check-in in order to collect a boarding pass with the new seat details. These will not be reflected in the GDS booking.
